Your barbs aren't eating your plants? What kind of pleco?

I would keep a sharp eye on those tinfoil barbs, they are known to be voracious at eating any vegetation. Here is a link to a thread on Monster Fish Keepers detailing the subject

Barbs are one family I would usually stay away from in a planted tank, rasboras on the other hand are usually perfect fits.

                        Re: New to planted tanks

Try a lfs? For some reason barbs aren't as popular. My lemon barbs would shred any plant that went into the tank.

Do you know any LFS that would take them?

Not sure. Extreme fish n pets, Unlimited fish n pets, City Pets, Fish Ranch, Fish Gallery all might take them in for free or possibly store credit, but it would be a low amount if anything for regular tinfoil barbs. I would call them in advance to see if they'll take for store credit. They're all in the SW side of town. Not sure where you're located, but you can always put them up for free here or sell for cheap and hope to get rid of them.

yeah... what they said... the barbs WILL eat your plants. the parrots, even without getting into all the other reasons not to keep them, will most likely dig around and wreak havoc on your plants and scape, as most larger cichlids will. and if you have a regular brown (common) plecostamus, while it may not eat plants outright, will grow very large, tear up the leaves of larger plants like swords, and is unfortunately also a poor choice. i'd try to trade all of them in if you could, and let whomever is helping you out at the shop know that you are stocking a planted tank, so need to avoid anything not suited for such.

29g- geo grow-out, angels, 12"fire eel, dwarf frog, apple snails
45g- jade sleeper gobies, native killifish, feeder endlers

                                Re: New to planted tanks

If you're talking about trading and asking for recommendations for fish at the store, avoid xtreme and unlimited. Go to fish ranch, fish gallery or city pets (if you're going to that side of town).
