  • What plants can I put and where?

    Hello,

So you may have seen my other post but I have a 75 gallon w/ 2 Fluval C306 Canister Filters and 2 Marineland Double Bright LED's. I used caribsea african cichlid sand and lace rock. I plan to put Male Peacock / Other Malawi Cichlids and I know they are not too good with plants so I wanted to ask you guys if you know of anyway to put plant(s) into my tank with this setup.

    Thanks in Advance!

Cichlids will uproot just about any plant you put in the tank. Just keep it as it stands now. Looks good

Malawis are tough on plants, so I'd stick with the tried and true bullet proof varieties and see how they fare before trying some of the more experimental types. Anubias and Java Fern are my go to plants in African Rift lake tanks. Lots of varieties to choose. Do not bury the roots, just wedge them into the rockwork. Grow very slow. Mosses are another option, some can work and some won't. I'd start with Java/Christmas and give it a shot. Criniums are tough and can do well enough to survive. Vals are actually found in the lake, but too soft for Malawis in my opinion.

Andrew thats what I thought but I've heard of success in placing certain plants in rock as mnemenoi said. I will be giving it a shot and if it doesn't work out then I'll just revert to just rock. =) Thanks guys!

No sweat, some nicer fake plants can look decent as well if well placed and not too outrageous
