Ehh, our sand grows some terrific plants. Root tabs will do everything you need if anything gets to be an issue. These tanks can get very addictive, especially due to the fact you can impulse buy plants without worrying about whether they'll work with the fish you have (though nano fish/shrimp are impulse buyable as well, lol). Tank looks great Sunny!!!

I agree you can grow some plants in sand....

But really nice foreground stuff and some other plants really do need a good aquasoil as a foundation for proper growth.

I don't know about that design.

Doesn't seem like you can put a slimmer in the middle.The two cambers are too small or any good a skimmer. But with some mods it will work.

filter socks are the best. On my sock setups I don't even need cans for polishing...

May try some k1 on my next one

Yeah, I love filter socks.

I actually went to michael's today and picked up a bunch of filter sock material and made some DYI filter socks.

Works like a charm. I don't even clean them. I just trash them when they need to get replace. But I did go with a thinner fabric. I noticed the thick normal filter sock fabric gets clogged faster.
