        Also with pfs, root tabs are nice since the sand doesn't hold much nutrients for the plants.

          I did the mgcop (miracle grow certified organce potting soil) capped with sand... terrible idea do not do this unless you never plan to replant or move anything around... this method isn't too bad if cap it with atleast an inch and a half of sand otherwise dont bother... its a completely disaster otherwise...

            I would never recommend capping any dirt to anyone, especially beginners. It's just a huge mess and a huge waste of time and money.

              +1 definitely would never do that again... though not a big waste of money as it is super cheap, but can be super messy too

                $12 + however much mgcop costs. I'd say that's quite a waste of money.
