I would get twice that or more if you want the tank to look active

20 would look a bit scarce, but if they are all subadults, you can expect breeding in a few months, another 30 to throw offspring, and a couple of months to mature, so it might be a bit before they get really densely populated. Once they get rolling though it will be game on LOL. You'll have them everywhere.

That's a nice tank. shrimp will love it.
I think you will do fine with 20 as a start. I started with 20( cherry) in a 55g and when I broke that tank down. There was hundreds. I have been thinking about adding shrimp to my planted tank.

Thanks for your opinion. I will be getting the shrimp sunday. I'm just going with 40.
