traci....you do what your starting with...you'll be pleasantly surprised with it.....i assure you.....and as for that tahitian black moon sand....it has and will turn into a muddy mess.....ask Roy.....he showed me a tank of it.....looked like crap.....

She asked for opinions...I chimed in....no need to get all witchy about it. I gave her several options that I have tried....even suggested SMS which is very similar to the shultz stuff.

I used the schultz to start off with, but then got serious after 2 yrs & changed to ADA. I liked the Schultz but it was a little light until things got well rooted. I grew nice plants in the Schultz & low light. It was easy to clean & didn't murk up the water. But, if you are going for serious plant tanks I think ADA soils are def the way to go.

Thats my 2 scents on that!! :snooty:

        You're all WRONG!!

No, all good suggestions. But, you know how people have their preferences. Personally, ADA Aquasoil still has yet to blow me away. My vote would be for Flourite, if for some reason the Home Depot stuff doesn't work. I've never tried it...could you post some close ups of it? All I can see when I google it is the bag.

It looks almost just like Flourite. I have flourite  in a 10  now, only because it was given to me & I wanted to try it, it's ok for what it is. Plain & simple it has no nutrient value. If you want something to grow you have to feed it.

Ok everyone has me wanting to redo one of my tanks with aquasoil. My question is did you have to rinse it first or did you just put it in the tank and add water. I plan to do this tomorrow or maybe sunday, depends on how my day goes tomorrow. Let me know. Thanks...... Looking foward to have a beatuiful planted tank.

Edit:Actually I will also be using the Schultz Aquatic Plant Soil from Home Depot.
