  • GLA CO2 System arrived today

I purchased an CO2 system from Green Leaf Aquarium and it arrived today. It was packaged very well and there was no damage.

I felt like a kid on Christmas Day. Although the installation is straightforward, I am lacking one very important component - CO2. I live on the NW side of Houston and have identified some potential suppliers. If anyone has any suggestions on a specific source, please let me know.

I couldn't wait so the first activity after opening the contents was setting up the drop checker. If I can source some CO2 tomorrow, I will finish the installation. I also purchased the Milwaukee Controller.....based in North Carolina...how is that? This controller will allow me to circumvent the use of timers because the CO2 will be regulated by pH. I plan to set the pH at 6.8, which is most suitable for the inhabitants of my aquarium.

Foremost, I hope the CO2 will greatly reduce my algae load. It is problematic.

I will take photos of the progress.

Yes I got a GLA system as well about 9 months ago. Mine is still working great. I have had no problems with it. I got a 20gal tank. So I don't have to mess with it for awhile. I do keep an eye on it just in case.
It will keep your ph levels down at 6.8 no problem. The speed of your plants growing will happen. That should make the plants beat the algae back. Have fun.

Yes, the GLA CO2 system is pricy, especially if you get all the bells and whistles. It was worthwhile for me to get the Milwaukee controller because I don't want the pH fluctuations or want to take a guess when to turn the CO2 system on and off. Every hobby has one common denominator - cash!

Today I installed the inline diffuser on my Eheim 2217 canister. While I have seen Youtube videos that state you can install the diffuser on either the in-take or out-take hoses, GLA recommended to install it on the out-take hose.

I also partially set up the CO2 system (it needs to be plugged in). Tomorrow, I will install the Milwaukee pH controller.

Then back to Square One - I need to optimize lighting and my fertilizer program with CO2.

I will be waiting to see if CO2 is the bane of BBA.

Awesome! I have three CO2 setups, two cheap Aquatek ones with upgraded needle valves from Praxair and one custom built dual stage regulator I had built from Praxair.

What fertilizer regime are you going with? I started EI dosing in my 240 gallon tank an the growth is insane! I am using NilocG dry ferts and making 1500ml macro and micro solution that I autodose using a dosing pump.

Do you have pictures of your tank now? You should post a grow log after you get everything dialed in.

I have made several observations. My CO2 tank has been set up for five days:

                1. The CO2 has not yet been optimized. I am increasing the bubble rate every day. It is important for me that my working pressure is at least 42 psi.
                2. No fish stress or deaths
                3. Algae growth appears to have subsided. The algae on the substrate has disappeared. BBA continues to be problematic on some of the plants.

I plan to continue to optimize the CO2 rate over the weekend, then start optimizing the fertilizer regimen.

                  This weekend:

                  1. Increase CO2 levels until 30 ppm is achieved.
                  2. Continue 20% water changes every four to five days with RO water.
                  3. Water chemistry testing

Virtually every plant is putting out new leaves, including the bucephalandra.

A bit off the subject but I had another fish fix yesterday...

36-inch bull red...I am 6'6" so the fish appears to be smaller

Very nice! If I could learn how to back up a truck with a boat I would be fishing once a week.
Boat just sits in garage. Still never even broke it in properly.
Maybe one day I give to someone that will use it. But I sure love fishing. I don't mind fish from the shore.

If you fished once a week, you would be able to back up blindfolded.

Yes you would think so. I tried. I gave up. My brain says no. Lol.
