  • Help with MTS infestation

I have a 90g cornerbow planted angel tank. Its always had mts, which is fine.
They help turn the substrate and add benifet to cleanup. However, they have gotten out of control.
When I feed, my substrate looks like a zombie hoard is coming to the surface.
I have a mix of tylomania and nerite snails that I don't want to loose.

I know loaches are capable snail eaters, as well as assassin snails, but as stated, I want to keep my tylos and nerites.
My tylos are all ~2", the nerites are a solid 1".

    Any input is appriciated.

I have solved this problem by lowering my pH to 6.0. I have only one MTS that has survived. Strangely, it has a very healthy shell so I assume it is an X-Man mutant.

The only other pest I am dealing with is HRC.

Fish trap with an opening small enough to exclude the big snails?

The MTS are finding enough food to reproduce, so if you can reduce the amount you have currently you will still have to fight the new ones. Gotta get the food theMTS are eating down so that the snails won't keep reproducing in such large numbers.
Catch them with a piece of cucumber. Slice a hunk of raw cucumber, peel it, boil it for a minute. Once it's cooled down throw it in tank. The MTS go crazy for it. You will be able to get a bunch out of the tank at a time. Just have to pick out good snails and throw them back. Good luck

I have Nerites and assassin snails. Assassins tend to go after prey smaller than themselves.

Feeding less had always got mine under control.

Thanks guys for all the help. Added peat to my canister, and bought a 3" clown loach. Mts are dwindling, the other snails are doing well. I feed 8 types of food a day.. no way to narrow down which they prefer, I've always found dietary diversity gives the best overall results. I did do the cucumber in a rigged coke bottle, caught about 80, with probably 900+ remaining. The loach has left a wake of about 100 shells since Tuesday. He doesn't both the tylo or nerite.
