Has anyone tried using potting soil for a planted tank? I was wondering if it is possible to use that since it is cheaper and its still dirt. Let me know what you know.
I used the aquasoil by Schultz from home depot. It's not really dirt it's more like hard clay rocks. So far it's working good but it keeps the ph at about 6.2-6.4. If you need a higher ph I don't suggest using it unless you add buffers to keep it up.
I used regular potting soil (from Home Depot) on my 80g planted tank. It worked wonderfully. I capped it with fluorite to keep the potting soil in place. The water clouds easily if you move anything - that was the main drawback.
Scarecrow : I haven't got a brain... only straw.
Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.
