Nice tank Finfin.  I think i bump into you at Houston Aquarium Warehouse when you return those puffer?  I have a few suggestion.  I suggest you move the inline pipe to the side also and remove the thermometer.  A tank like this, you want less distraction as possible.  If you want a better flow move the outlet more toward the front where the sword won't block the flow and allow your vals to be grow vertical like the other side.   I notice lots of aquasoil bleeding to the sand.  A good way to prevent this is tie moss or riccia to small rock and wedge it between those loose area.  As for the protein build up, you can move the outflow up at night to create surface agitation and also add oxygen.  Require a little dedication.  Overall great job!

thanks guys, tnguyen, i think u r right about HAW, we were talking about the blue diamonds and how water change helps discus growth!  anyway, i think i will move the inline pipe to the side and also i forgot to take the thermometer out when taking the pix, i love the clean look too, as far as aquasoil spilling over, the culprit are my cories, i clean it and then they do it overnight, its a little game we are playing now a days, i have caught them in the act several times :)  i have actally added bubbles/oxygen on the very right back side (can't really see it) and that has pretty much taken care of the protein build up (for now)!

Wow, I didn't know it actually made flowers.    Your doing so well with your tank. It seems like everything is just flourishing in there. You must be doing something right.

thanks edm, i love nana flowers, its not like a typical flower though (specially since it is under water), the green bud will open up in a few days and a white "corncob" looking inside will come out, that will stay for a week or more and then eventually decompose and fall off, i will post pix when the white inside comes out

I can't wait to see it! I have a cactus on the patio that makes a flower and only blooms around midnight then dies off by morning. It was really something to see. I set my clock for 1 am so that I could see it before it died.   Oh and it only does this once a year. I am now waiting for Sept. to see if it makes another flower.

guys/gals, i've been thinking and i really want to add shrimp to this tank, i've never kept shrimp, so it will be new, but i am just dying to add some, what type of shrimp will be best in this set up?

as you know - i have large angels, checkerboard cichlids, harlequin rasboras, hillstream loaches, corys, the ph is usually 7.0, and temperature around 82degrees, don't want to change the parameters

i really love the way the rcs looks, but am afraid that they will be eaten up quickly, the only hope is that because of pretty dense vegetation now, maybe they will be able to hide! also like them because they breed in freshwater successfully (right?)

i know amano is a choice, but don't care for how they look

                    suggestions please

I'm far from a shrimp guru... but 82 degrees sounds on the warm side for most shrimp. RCS may be able to survive in your tank...but only because of the dense vegetation.

don't know if it will work for everyone but I have RC's in mine w/ 80-82 temp and PH 7.0 [tap water] .   It's planted & they thrive .
tank mates are lg. Discus, cardinal & rummynoses, cories, BN, rainbow, clowns, dwarfpuffers x 4..
run everything for Discus and all others adjust or move out.      RC's have good color & multiply.
