Re: my first ADA 120P planted tank journal

myjohnson, i just got the puffers yesterday, they are in a small tank with 4 platys and a random kribensis, i can't really tell if they are eating or not yet, i need to observe closely, i might move them to this 65gallon (where i have noticed some snails), i don't think there are any snails in the tank they are in currently

btw, for some reason or another i have never cories until this batch that i just bought, they are awesome, i love the way they school and foriage, can't believe i have never kept them before, very cool fish, they seem a little dumb though with food, i have scattered some sinking pellets for them all around the tank, they seem to miss the pellets even when they are foriaging closeby, hopefully they will find the food in the tank, they are going all around but seem to always miss the food laying there!

my tank is cycled :)))  i could not resist sharing a little update with the new inhabitants

      here's cycled tank

      updated full tank shot

another angel updated full tank shot

close up of the val nana - love the way it looks

nasty algae - have to share the bad with the good

another nasty algae - but good news - most of the nanas have a new leaf - look in this pic

ok here are the awesome puffs (wall-e & eva) - they are curious about the snail - does not seem like they know how to eat it

      how does this work?

      where is wall-e?

      the cories - three stooges

      following the leader

      another try at the tree

the loaner - she/he is sometimes with the other three - otherwise by himself!

I have to get some cories.    Your tank is looking really great. When I would feed my dwarfs snails I would usually crush them first and then they would tear it apart. Of course my snails were usually twice the size of the puffer.

Re: my first ADA 120P planted tank journal

thanks guys, i am really enjoying the cories and the puffs, i just hope the puffs figure out the whole snail eating thing, otherwise i don't know how else to make them eat, i need to start a snail factory :)

i can't wait to put my angels and checkerboards, i am thinking angels go in sometime this week/weekend and the checkers next weekend

but i might get some amanos in the next few days and put them in to eat some of that nasty algae

the good thing is that it seems like the algae growth has gotten slower in the last couple of days as the tank got closer to being cycled

You can feed your dwarf puffers frozen blood worms & freeze dried blood worms. Also frozen brime shrimp, mysis shrimp or frozen clams. I don't suggest krill, it can give your puffer lock jaw.

thanks bhushan, they are nice, not quite ADA, but it will do just fine for me, but the scary thing is that i don't even want to start adding up what i have spent on this tank so far, and i know it is not the end, i am just acting like i don't know what i spent!

just now saw this thread... looks really good...

just out of curiosity... why didnt you take some dirty filter media from one of your existing tanks to get the cycle jumpstarted for this one?

at the luis Navarro talk he said to put the shrimp in as soon as humanly possible... maybe they're tough enough to survive the cycle? *shrug*

                              looks awesome!

I'm off and on tempted to try a real planted setup...beyond my just tying low light plants to things and hoping they dont die...

Look good, finfan. Why don't you install the calaqua and post pic up tonight? It won't take lots of time, just be careful not to break them when inserting.
