I second the powerhead.  You can stick it on the right side to also aid in your flow issues.  If you really cant stand it, I use a paper towel.  That usually does the trick and doesnt really cost anything.  Just let it dry out and use it again.

Protein buildup.  Nothing harmful, it just looks bad.

thanks screen, now i have another question for all:

          this tank currently has:

4 angles (almost adults - one breeding pair, the other two not)
4 checkerboards (2m, 2fm, one of the males dominent and breeds with both females)
          4 Corycats
          5 Ocats
          2 hillstream loaches
          24 harlequin rasboras

other than the angels squabbling (no major damage or anything, just fighting between the dom. male and the other males challenging him), and the dom. checkerboard male chasing the other male, there is really no issues in the tank and compatibility

now, fishfan (my better half) is a HUGE fan of german rams, we had them before but they spawned and died from too much stress from fending off for the fry!  but i am tempted to get them again, we are thinking that maybe we will just get one male or a couple of males, that way there is no spawning issues and related stress (that they can't handle apparently). our question is, given the above mix of fish, does it seem that they will be incompatible (specially since there is already 4 dwarf cichlids (the checkerboards)?

I have 6 angels, 1 pair blue german rams, 2 chinese algea eater, 4 cory cats, 4 loaches, 8 rosey barbs, 8 apisto's all in my 90 gallon semi planted and my rams are doing great. I did have 2 pair of rams but a friend wanted a pair so I gave them to her. I think with all the plants you have in there your rams would be fine. I don't have that many plants and a smaller tank.

edm, do you have a pair as in m/f or 2 rams?  mine is a smaller tank - 65gallon (footprint 48"*18"), but i also only have 4 other dwarfs as oppose to 8, so, i guess i should be fine!  we should at least try

I thought it was a 120.  Anyway yes I have a pair as in 1m/1f. I did have 2 pairs as in 2m/2f.  I gave my friend one pair and I kept the other. They only spawned twice but ate all their eggs. I'm not really sure if they spawned more than that because I have not seen any eggs. Still I think you should be fine with a pair of rams.

the name ADA 120p is misleading because it refers to 120 cm's as opposed to gallonage, but the footprint is the same as a standard 75 gallon or in some cases 90 gallon

Maybe I should pay more attention.    That's what I get for "assuming".

update - as expected all the angel eggs were eaten (mostly by the checkerboards) within 2.5 days

the checkerboard female that spawned first just spawned again last night, this time in a different spot

one month update - the tank has been up for a month now, its been really fun, i'm not going to repeat everything, but lots of spawning (no frys made it with all the mouths), overall algae has been in control and no major problems so far (keeping my fingers crossed)
