  • thinking of...switching things up.

    Okay guys...I've got the itch.
Not the saltwater itch (I've already scratched that one unfortunately)...but the itch to switch tanks.

Right now, I have a standard 100 gallon. I know that I'm going planted...but to do so, I'm going to have to take everything out and put down more sand and maybe some soil. I have to remove my driftwood pieces and tie the java moss/christmas tree moss...basically, I have to tear down my tank.

So...that got me to thinking....I kinda want a bowfront aquarium. Maybe an 80-90+...does the shape of the aquarium matter when it comes to planted tanks??
The bowfront isn't as long but it's much taller.
Sooo....what do yall think? To switch or not to switch.

It will be harder for the light to penetrate deeper water. You'll need more powerful lighting.  Additionally, it will be slightly more difficult to get the light spread across the front bow of the aquarium. Just my initial thoughts... I am by no means a plant expert.

Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

      I agree with Tim.
You will need to upgrade your lighting.

Is there a specific type of lighting that you have to sue with bowfront?
        I suppose it's shaped differently??  8O

Go with the full length T-5 lighting in the rear & use a T-5 light that fits in the front.

            Re: thinking of...switching things up.

What lighting are you using now? I thought you still had that metal halide/t5 setup.

You can stick more crap in the bowfront, go for it. Unless you had planned on giving that one to maja.. in that case shame on you for being greedy, let the lady have the nice tank. :P

There is not bowfront specific lighting. If your using some kind of crap set up then it will be an issue but I thought you had a nice one. Details, we need details.

ps, I'm making gumbo right now... and it r-o-c-k-s.

yeah...i have the t5/metal halide set...but it gets too hot and cracks the glass tops.  8O

how would I use that in a bowed tank...i don't think it would fit.  :?
And by the way, I'm expecting some gumbo.

                  Re: thinking of...switching things up.

Just make sure the tank is not taller than your arm is long.
I have a hex tank 25" tall and I can't reach the bottom to plant anything.
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

                    lmao...PHISH.

I just went to look at the new tank I bought my mom today....I was trying to get some styrofoam out of the bottom and I fell in.
8O In case none of you know...falling into a bowfront tank is painful.
