  • Starting my 75 gallon planted tank journal

So I have never really intentionally done this before, so I hope I do well.

I just purchased a 75 gallon tank today at Fish Ranch II, Mike put a black background on it for me.

I have a tiny car, so I took the stand home tonight, then the tank will come home tomorrow.

I am still looking for good lights (used) and a full CO2 rig, preferably used.

I just purchased 4 bags of ADA fancy soil stuff (bad with names right now)

I figure I will not use the dirt all over the place but have the front part be black sand.

For plants, I will use red lotus, amazon sword, blyxia, ludwigia and maybe a few others.  Also Java or Christmas Moss.

I have a nice piece of driftwood picked out

For fish I plan on using my

    20 threadfin rainbows (small)
7-16 red tailed long fin white cloud minnows (need to get more when they are in stock)
    8 Angel rams
4 dwarf rainbows (need a couple more females)
    1 pair of apistogramma
    1-2 yellow spotted bn pleco
hopefully dwarf crayfish of some sort
    maybe cherry shrimp
    1 gabon wood shrimp

    Any suggestions?

eww, pleco, get cories...      red lotus needs pretty high light inorder for it to stay low, other wise the leaf will just float to the top...

I already have the plecos.  They are tiny.

What I do need to figure out is what kind of lights I need, and can I find them used.

Re: Starting my 75 gallon planted tank journal

I planted most of them last night, the blyxia was put in tonight.

Most of this time was waiting for the ammonia spike from the amazonia to die down a little.

In a while I will start adding a few more fish. :)

              It will house:

              praecox rainbows
              threadfin rainbows
              dwarf gourami
              apistos
              julii cories

              dwarf crawfish
              amano shrimp
              1 gabon wood shrimp

                  Thanks again :)

I am really excited about the tank...

I made some adjustments to the aquascaping - a friend said it was too divided right down the middle, so I moved the plants on the left side further to the left.

I just got a cool pair of killifish for the tank - blue gularis - They are so pretty!  I can't wait for them to breed!
