ok i have heard rumors no conformation
if i want to have a plant tank and wanted to go cheap and use potting soil exactly what type should i use

One way - organic top soil with no chemicals, shultz aquatic soil (clay pellets) and gravel.  

You could also use earthworm casings cover with sand.  Or ..here's some links.
