    Re: plants for sump

If you're real lucky you can find a plastic basket that is big enough to hang on the sump ledge and already has mesh/holes/slots in it.
or you can make holes with a soldering iron and add a couple of pieces of wood or pvc pipe to the top so that it hangs on the ledge.....
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

            Very nicely done John!

Did you test the water for "before parameters"?

                Re: plants for sump

Man, with the way that set up is you could do a lot more then just mangroves!

I would look into some floating plants as well like salvinia and maybe some water lettuce.... maybe not get caught with it though.

                  Re: plants for sump

I think from this you will have two things to keep in mind with what to expect from the plant scrubber.....

                  1. the fish load is higher then the plant intake so it's keeping parameters stagnant or slows it down keeping it from increasing at the rate it use to.
                  2. Plant intake is enough to lower parameters and intake what the bio-load produces.

So I would do multiple test and it would be real interesting to have seen previous parameter readings throughout a period of time so that we could compare?

                                fshfrk,
Now that my big tank is broke, I have some mangrove plants I can give you when I go that way. But there's one problem, don't know if this is normal or not, they are starting to get this sticky sap on them. I have had them for about 9-10 months. This is the first time I ever had them so it may be a normal thing. Don't know. Anyway if you want them, I'll send you a pm and let you know when I'll be in the area and we can meet somewhere. Just let me know if you want them.
