Can we attach java fern or anubias to a piece of holey rock ?
will they grow?

I've heard those plants actually grow better tied to something then they do buried in soil.

I like to use black cotton thread, after a while it disenegrates and leaves the plants attached on their own.

in your case since its holey rock you probably would want to go with a white/cream/yellow thread

or you can use thin fishing line, but it wont ever disenegrate.

i personally wouldnt use fishing line, i used it to tie down 4 java ferns to a big piece of lace rock, and a couple of my mbuna kept jackin with it, and fianlly tore off a couple pieces, and swollowed them 8O  they died a couple days later, maybe just a freak accident, but i dont trust it

I use the ADA moss cotton and wood tight.  8)

It works fine either way.... it's just that some don't know that you are not suppose to bury the rhizome which will kill them.
