Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of what I used... but the important part is to make sure that there isn't any fertilizers in the soil. That can kill your fish. I sent you a PM, EaRtHeAtEr.

Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

I dont recall what its called but when you goto walmart or home depot, its the absolutely cheapest one you can get.. its like 99c a bag, because it has 0 fertilizer in it etc..  this is the kind you need.  I know home depot sell the pea gravel too for like $3.29/50 lbs I believe..  Friend of mine made a 55g tank with one bag of potting soil and one bag of the pea gravel and they tell me that their plants THRIVE in the stuff..   They tell me that its taken about a month or a little more to get the "brown" tannins out of the water though with lots of filtration.  Does not recommend using charcoal to remove it because it will leach the nutrients that the plants wants too.. so just a lot of water turn over with good filtration and it will come out with time.  They have guppies, cories etc living in it right now.

I suggest you read this is by far more efficient than the potting soil by itself.
