    Re: Nano planted tanks

thats the main reason i hate stem plants - planting and trimming them!
    Scarecrow : I haven't got a brain... only straw.
Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

yeah stems can be a pain but they also are great as background plants. cheap and usually easy to keep.

scored some red cherry shrimp today to replace the dead ones i got sent.

picked up 6 to add to the 2 i already had but i think the numbers will multiply real soon, i got two that were nice and plump full of eggs.

                    I have shrimplets!!

I had two prego females to start with and one of them lost its batch so I thought she dropped them from the stress but come to find out today she laid them! Saw about four of them swimming around but didn't search the whole tank for them. The little guys kinda caught me off guard since I only saw them at a glance and thought I had an inestation.

this is easier than i thought!

tried to count as many as i could while putting a pre-filter on the nano-hob filter and i think i counted ten that would come out of hiding. im sure theres more but my eyes arent that great.

i also noticed that one of my shrimp has a green saddle, time to find out what thats all about.

well the riccia is growing quite well with no co2 just an occasional dose of excel and there are more shrimp now with the babies and me adding 6 more to the 7 adults in the tank.

Very nice! I'm glad the babies are doing well! And yeah, have you figured out anything about the green saddle on the one?

                              Re: Nano planted tanks

i found out that the saddle is the ovaries and when mated/fertilized the saddle falls and becomes the eggs.

as for the color green i found nothing more than a few others sharing the same. i have some with yellowish saddles and from what i found out thats what color they are suppose to be and other species have green.
