if you decide to set it up and happen to use a coralife fixture and want to run open top i have an extra brass retangle to mount the aqualight legs to it.

        like so

here's a link to what i did for my little 2.5g here

          Re: Nano planted tanks

So, I think I'm going to be getting some more lights in a week or so...do you have a glass top on the 2.5? Some of the pictures look like an open setup, and some look like there's a top. If you have a top, is it the same one you got with the tank, or a different one? I'm just wondering what you did in order to fit the nano filter on there. Thanks! Hope the tank is doing well!

just noticed that you posted here mzungu, sorry i didnt see it.

the 2.5g is open top, the glass top that came with the tank will not work with the nano hob filter but if you left it on there it would hang off either the front or side of the tank. i also left the top off cause the water spots that would build up on it from the hob look like it was limiting the amount of light getting through.

Okay, thanks for answering!    Yeah, I still have the top on mine, and I have to clean it quite often, I have just an air pump going in there for circulation. It's hanging off the front a little bit, though. Oh well! I've got a molly in there, and in my experience they love to jump.  :)

Re: Nano planted tank...updated w/ pics of mine.

getting ready to move the shrimp into my 20g planted tank but wanted to show some pictures of how everything is growing in the tank.

                2.5g.
                coralife 18w pc w/custom legs
                redsea flora root substrate
                redsea nano hob filter
                malaysian driftwood hardscape
baby tears, riccia and a tiny bit of taiwan moss
                tons of RCS
two baby guppies from red mother, father?

                no ferts and no co2

                flash on

                flash off

the shrimp are hiding since i had to push the riccia towards the back, i have been neglecting this tank so there was no trimming and no reattatching the riccia after it grew out of the tank.

Re: Nano planted tank...updated w/ pics of mine.

Wow, that looks great! I like how you only have 3 kinds of plants, it really unifies the scape, and makes the driftwood stand out. Especially since the plants seem to have the same shades of green; all three complement each other very nicely. I don't know if you're planning on putting any plants on the right side of the tank, but my vote is to keep it like it is. The contrasts are wonderful. Great job!!  :emtthumbs:

Did you order the Taiwan moss online? How is it working for you? I love all the new mosses that are becoming available, but I haven't really seen many besides java moss and christmas moss around houston.

                    thanks for the compliments.

it stays as it sits, the only change would be to pull the cherries out and start fertilizing it. the taiwan moss was a starter clump/pinch that came with some RCS i bought from someone on apc but the sad part was thats all that made it.

i plan to purchase some flame moss from aquaticmagic cause i like the different moss too!

Re: Nano planted tank...updated w/ pics of mine.

That looks super, I can't even get java moss to grow for me.  But then, I was trying to grow it in the Discus tank that stays at about 86 degrees so that may have been part of the problem.  I had a 20 long I was originally going to use for a planted tank, but I have it filled with Yellow Lab fry right now.

                      Good job, I jealous
