  • my rescaped 30 gallon planted

i got really bold this sunday and in addition to doing my 65gallon, i also decided to regut my 30 gallon, took out everything (fish, plants, substrate), cleaned out everything (except filter media) and redid the tank

now it is just thin sand substrate, a few pieces of driftwood with nana and fern, a few rocks, i'm going to take a less is more approach to this tank, the inhabitants you see are temporary, i have not decided what to really do with it, suggestions are welcome, dimensions are 24"long*12"deep*24"high - so footprint is small but it is 30 gallon due to height

    full tank shot from far

I have a bunch of tetra and phantoms in my cube, but no plants. I was going to buy that ADA soil from Brian, but someday, I'll get me some and fix my cube up to look alittle like yours there, with some nice driftwood and some cool plants, and of course my tetras and cardinal, & phantoms.

    Have fun with it...

Beautiful tank! I don't have any suggestions as I agree with the less is more approach you've taken. It has a very spartan appearance, but the positioning of the specific elements in the tank works extremely well!

What type of lighting do you have on it?

        thanks CF & LP

the lighting is the standard eclipse flouroscent lighting - two 15w bulbs, so barely 1/wpg and with the height, it really is lower than that, but i have only nana and java fern, so low light should be ok, the two nana's initially lived in this same light for 5 months and then i switched to higher light (because i added other plants) and then back to low light, personally, because of the size of the plants and setup, i will be happy if they remain the same size or grow very slowly

I like it. It has a nice, clean look and the plants look healthy.

            Great job on this tank!
            it looks very good.
i just bought a 40g breeder, and will most likely make it a planted cichlid tank.
would you remove the trim on an AGA 40G Breeder?
i am kinda worried about the width of the tank without any brace.
not trying to highjack your thread, but dont want to remove it and be hosed:)

              thanks WD and EA

as far as moving the trim on a 40g breeder maybe iffy, i would personally not do it, maybe on a 10 or even 20, but 40.. that maybe taking a risk, otherwise, i think the 40g breeder shape is ideal for planted because of width and height, i myself am thinking about making this one a cichlid tank, not angels, apistos, etc, but something different, i'm thinking maybe shellies, but then the top portion will remain unused and its too small for cyps

one of the best shellie tanks i have ever seen was HONKZZ 20g (48x10x10) tank.
it had an awesome huge colony of multies, but the it was still so small, width and height, that he couldnt ad much else, but he came up with an awesome idea, he added like 20 harlequin rasboras, which ended up looking really cool. i would look into small top water fish like these for the tank. maybe some ember tetras, or even some thread finned rainbows.

EA, i know exactly which tank you are talking about, i saw that thread and pix, that was awesome, obviously that won't work for my setting, on second thought i also don't want to add shells, i wander if the crevices in the wood will work for shellies? i guess it would not be ideal? so maybe i need to rethink the stocking!

well, its been about 4 months, so i thought i should update this, i have not done much to the tank other than move things slightly and add couple of plants (a small red tiger lotus and stem plant) i really need to find a nice piece of driftwood branch that is tall and will fill up the left side of the tank, currently i have my angel pair, one bolivian ram, one flagfish, and a trio of cories, here are a couple of pix
