  • New Journal : 75g planted nano tank

That's right - my goal is to make a 75g nano tank. All plants and inhabitants will be "nano", just a lot more of em than in a nano I got got the idea from a few people on these boards and while talking to Dan over at Houston Aquarium Warehouse.

So here it is, just after adding Aquasoil and gravel. Sorry Finfan, your substrate layout was too irresistable for me to not copy - I really like it! But mine isn't exactly the same. The jury is still out on the gravel color though - it may look lighter once I put water in. I'm still playing around with the driftwood and haven't decided on what type rocks just yet...

you could do without the rocks if your plant selection works.

A branch or two more probably wouldn't be a bad idea. I'm still kicking it all around.

As for the rocks... first I should explain my thoughts. I'm going for plants with thinner or smaller leaves... the type of stuff you'd put in a small tank to make it look bigger. Nothing too tall, except for Val. nanas. No big swords etc... So, I think I'll need a few rocks to help a little. I can't decide to go volcanic or river rock. I'm leaning toward redish colored volcanic.

I think I'm looking at a lot of trial and error to get it to fit the image in my mind!

I'm thinking a huge school of boraras, ocats, shrimp of different type.. tiny cories. Would like to do pea puffers too - but from what I've read it's not a good idea for a community. I saw something at HAW, but I can't remember the name.. something like glow light rasboras.. need a school of those guys too!

sounds like a good plan... a few others you can consider

                    (1) Rasbora Axelrodi (dwarf blue rasbora): I've seen a shoal of about 25 of these in person and it is stunning to say the least... the color in the picture below is probably only 10% as brilliant as the real blues you see in person, but they are hard to come by, but a true nano species.

                    (2) Hemigrammus Armstrongi (gold tetra): Another amazing little fish I have also seen in person. The shimmer on these guys are second to none and a shoal is a sight to behold, once again the picture below does not do justice to this species.

when i do my nano... one of these (or both if there is room) will go
                    65 gallon - ADA 120p - planted
55 gallon - AGA standard - mix cichlid
                    30 gallon tall - eclipse acrylic - semi-planted

That would be pretty cool! They probably get a little bigger than I'd want though.. imagine twice that number of tetras or boraras!
