  • Tribal red line puffer

Don said Gallery will be getting these guys in in about 3 weeks. I'm kind of leaning towards getting one.

I understand they are a slightly brackish puffer but what I was wondering for those who have brackish tanks what kind of salt do you use (when we had salt tanks we used Oceanic) and do you use RO water or tap and add the salt to the correct salinity?

Oceanic salt is prolly one of your best options to make your water brackish salinity. You are going want to get the salinity to somewhere between 1.012 and 1.015.
Another reason you want to use something like Oceanic salt, is it contains the other elements that the fish are looking for, aquarium salt will not give those trace elements

I knew to use aquarium salt, but wasn't sure which brand was preferred (if any). We had a salt tank for a few years so we're very familiar with how to use it, but with a salt tank you have to use R/O water. I was wondering with a brackish tank if you also use RO water. According to the sticky in this forum they should be at 1.002-1.005. They are only a slightly brackish puffer.

karens, i was at extreme fish a couple weeks ago, and they had a tank full of red line tribal puffers, good size to, ~ 2.5-3"tl.
        for like $24.99 each.

call them, they might still have a few.

When Fish Ranch 2 had them, they were only $6.99 there. At first, they were mislabeled as Figure 8 puffers. Another store, whose name I do not want to mention because my intention is NOT to slander them, had them for $79.99! :o
            This was just this winter.

From what I've read online $25 seems pretty inline as far as price goes. $6.99 is a steal! I was at Fish Ranch last weekend and there weren't any red lines that I saw. Too bad!

I should also clarify, Oceanic, etc, to me IS aquarium salt. The salt that some people add to their tanks as a therapeutic etc isn't aquarium salt in my mind.
