oh sunny... this has not been a good day! I agree with the hypotheses that piglet got his tail stuck... this would produce this type of wound. an antibiotic as a preventative is a good idea. hes in good hands.

Careful with some of the harsh meds, it is a scaleless fish so their reaction is different.

I have some scaleless fish and their slime coat would start to shed at any hint of chlorine/chloramine.

                My Tetraodon Miurus (Congo Puffer)

Sunny sorry i just saw the thread..
                How is it doing now??
If nothing goes terriblely wrong i think it would be ok..very hard fish under my hand for all this time..i had a few times with the filter stopped working for a few days and it was still fine, also a few times very cloudy water and it did not seems to be stressed either.
One thing i would do is definally take the rocks out. I had no rock, only sand in my tank. Because it like to switch place to burry itself..i never seen it at the same place..it would switch a few places daily sometimes..so i suggest no or very little rock in ur 29. Its not that big of a foot print. If you like using rock. Use round rocks with no edge. Puffers do crazy things when they got scared or sudden change outside of the tank..( around the tank movement, sudden light on etc). My mbu does that all the time, slaming itself into rocks or glass..trying to escape i suppose. In your case, it might be this reason or it was an accident during the congo's esplore over the new tank, like got stuck between rock..
Again..not really a good idea to use heavy rocks in congo's tank imo..it might try to hide under the sand below the heavy rock and got stuck..who knows..i am sure you saw how it get itself into the sand lol..

As for the wound..just make sure the water is good, maybe a little salt would be good..try to not use medicane unless you really have to. Puffers are really sansitive to meds..

Let me know anytime if you have any question or concern.

Thanks for the backhanded compliment there Yeff.

He's now floating upside down but breathing. How much sea salt should I add? 1tbsp/10gal? Or less?

I think the fry cage grid is making him disoriented.

Before you get any more worked up, I'm referring to a large diy fry cage that I make. Put him there to to keep him off the substrate, to keep the rosies from picking on his skin and to keep him from being blown all over the tank by the current.
