Mbu will get about 2x larger than a Fahaka. That's really the biggest difference, but it's definitely significant. Larger puffer, bigger mess with food, larger tank needed.

Fahaka:
Minimum Tank Size: 120 US gallons (450 liters) - Ideally a tank with 24" or more turning room front to back.
Max. Size: 18 inches (43 cm) - Grows very fast, expect to grow an inch a month for their first year.

Mbu:
Minimum Tank Size: 1000 US gallons (4000 liters)
Max. Size: 26 inches (67 cm)

Fahaka is more aggressive.

At 26" with the MBU I guess there's no calling it aggressive.... one bite and you're gone!

Fahaka is best housed alone with no tankmates.
A Mbu can be housed with small, med. or large tankmates if the tank and the filtration is large enough to handle the bioload of such a massive fish.

I would love to have a Mbu one day.

Thanks! I sold it over 2 years ago though...didn't have a big enough tank and got tired of staring at one fish.

how fast does the mbu grow? i might be jumping on the puffer bandwagon soon! but i definitely want to do my research before i do. I realized i'm a one fish per tank kind of girl, lol.

I'm not 100% sure about a Mbu but I think they grow about 1" a month for the first year. Same as the fahaka. Just don't quote me on that one.
