    Re: Angel Eggs

Well, the kids are at it again.

They started spawning almost immediately after a water change today.  I'll be out of town until Thursday, but if they don't munch on the eggs I hope they'll be okay until then.  They are in their own tank with only a little albino BN (about an inch) so hopefully they will do better this time.  It's been about an hour and they're still spawning and cleaning.

Last pic, promise, well maybe

These are still young.  I got them I guess about dime to quarter size at the summer HAS auction.

            Re: Angel Eggs

I wouldn't expect much with the BN in there. He may be young, but I've never seen a fish not at least try to enjoy some caviar if its not their own!   Esp. those bottomfeeders! If you leave the light on 24/7 they'll have a better chance of fending him off, unless they decide the eggs look tasty also...

Mzungu, that is exactly what Obed was describing with another 2 L bottle on the bottom in place of that jar.

              Re: Angel Eggs

I've already turned the timer off, it's gonna be like Motel 6 here, "we'll leave the light on".  I could probably get the BN out, but that would probably upset the parents as much as his being there.  They're still really young so I'm not expecting them to have the hang of parenting, but I'll give them a few more tries on their own.  So far their fanning the eggs and getting along with each other.

                LOL, Daisy!

Don't hesitate to keep posting pictures! It's neat to see your angels trying to get the hang of everything. And they seem to like that slate!  :)

                  Re: Angel Eggs

The eggs were still there this morning when I left.  The parents are taking turns fanning the eggs and I didn't see any turning white, but I guess that takes 24 hours or more, or the parents are removing them.  They are both still getting along fine, one stands guard and one fans.  They are taking turns with the responsibilities which is encouraging.  The only thing I wish is that it was two Smokies and not a Smokie and Silver.  I have two other beautiful Smokies, but I know one is a male and I suspect the other is as well.   With my luck I have three male Smokies and three female Silvers.

Yahoo! Hope you end up with babies - not snack food! Now you are going to be thinking about those fish while out of town! I'll have my fingers crossed for you!

I could call my assistant fish keeper and check on them, but I'd rather wait and see for myself when I get back into town.  Sometimes ignorance is bliss

                        Re: Angel Eggs

It's great that they were still there! They did a good job fending off the little guy!

With a Silver/Smokey Combo, you should be getting half silvers and half smokeys. If it were a Smokey/Smokey combo, you'd still be getting half smokeys, but you'd get 25% Silvers and 25% Chocolates. Or did you know all of that? If you did, sorry!

How long are you going to be gone?

Okay, I've got a question about genetics. I'll try not to sound too stupid   ...If it's a smokie and a silver, will the offspring consist of both smokies and silvers, or is one dominant over the other, or will the traits blend into another kind, or is there no way of knowing?

Ellen is psycho, opps I mean psychic

I'll be back early Thursday evening.  Then I'll be home until the first full week of December.  By then if they survive I should be able to arrange alternate feeding plans for a week.  Hmmm, wonder if Embassy Suites would mind if I brought them with me

My poor little BN is afraid to even stick his nose out from behind the filters.
