    Re: Angel Eggs

Its actually fish art that they are doing, kinda like one of those magic eye pictures. If you look closely, and focus just beyond the eggs, you will see a 3 dimensional picture emerge of you feeding the fish. It is common knowledge that fish are diligent workers, but now it comes out that they are devious and artistic as well.

I agree with encouraging letting the fish parent raise. I sure don't plan on artificially raising any fry when my angels grow up. I am of the line of thinking that if they can't raise their own, their genes aren't what I'm looking for... I'm glad they're doing a good job!

        Re: Angel Eggs

It looks like I have wigglers.  I see some drifting off the slate and the parents are either snacking on them or spitting them back on the slate.  I guess I'll know for sure in a day or so.  I think they're spitting them back on as I saw some debris on the slate that only the parents could have put there.  They later removed the debris.

        Update  artyman:

Yep, their spitting them back on   .

The parents are scurrying all over the bottom of tank and checking out every little piece of whatever to see if it's one of the wigglers.

I can without a doubt verify the parents are returning the wigglers to the slate.  Or at least their trying their best.  I've counted the female collecting four or more in her mouth before returning them to the slate.  This is better than reality TV and a lot more relaxing.

LOL! Sounds like they're having a hard time keeping the kids where they want them! YAY for not eating the wigglers! Next test: freeswimmers!

              Re: Angel Eggs

I still have wigglers this morning but the parents moved them from the slate to the heater.  The female was trying to move them from the slate to the back glass when I last looked last night.  As fast has she'd spit them on the glass they would start to float down as they wouldn't stick.  The male would rush over and gather them up and put them back on the slate.  I guess they finally worked things out and mutually agreed on the heater.

I assume you have turned the heater off. Leave it off until they are freeswimming. Hope the parents do not eat them once they are free swimming. good luck.

I have turned the heater off and do have another heater I can put in there if needed.  I'll keep an eye on the temp.  With the cold front expected tomorrow and my drafty old house I will probably have to use the spare heater.  If they don't survive the free swimming stage this time, maybe they will next time.

Why do they put them on things like the filter intake and the heater?? Geez! At least you caught them before they cooked!

Now momma angel is again trying to move them to the back wall.  What part of "won't stick there" does she not understand

Surely she doesn't know it's going to get cold and they will need a heater

I still have wigglers this morning and the parents are still putting them back on the heater as they fall.  Today you can see the body shape better.

They are starting to free swim

Now the parents are not picking them up and spitting them back on the heater.  They will pick them up and spit them out mid tank.  Some are starting to swim on their own.  Now I guess it's up to me to keep them alive.  I have Vinegar eels and Micro worms ready to go and will start the BBS today.
