    szidlon,

Glad to hear that the gold marbles spawned.  None of those that I kept from the same batch have yet.  Nice picture of your parents and babies.  You never have enough room.  I have two 110 gal. horse troughs in my backyard full of growing angels. And two twenties inside with fry that are six weeks and a month old. lol.  Two hundred and fifty gold marbles and 50 blacks just in those two inside tanks.  The HAS Auction will have plenty of angels.

      Szidlon,

Okay.  One more note on the gold marbles I've bred.  Two of the seven month old koi juveniles from a cross between two of my gold marbles showed up pearlscale.   One of them is promising to be a really pretty fish with a deep orange color.

Obed had told me it takes awhile before the fry exhibit the pearlscale trait.  There may be a bunch more pearlscales from this batch.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed.  The ratio should be 1 in 4.

      Good luck with yours.

                  Howdy Sue,

Great job with your breeding program and pictures!  You have a heater in the 100 gallon tubs outside right?  How cold of water can the anglefish take?

I also szidlon picture of the black angel fish and fry!  later, ken

They are really looking great!  I did finally break down and get rid of my Fronts so I could use their 75 as a grow out tank.  They seem to be really happy in there, lots of room, at least for now.  I keep looking for a nook or cranny to put another 20 for the pair of gold marbles I got from you, but so far, no luck.  I may just switch the pair I have in the twenty with the gold marbles for a while.  I have fry coming out of my ears.  I know now that what Walter said about not being able to keep them all is sooo true.  I'd really like to see if I get any pearlscales from the gold marbles so I may have to put some sort of plan into action soon.  The smokey male is becoming abusive to his silver veil mate so I may have to separate them anyway.  They're fine one day and then the next he's got her hiding behind the filter again.  Oh, and another batch of free swimmers today   .  Still looking for that off switch

Right now I am using two 300 watt heaters in each 100 gal. tub and during really cold periods I cover the tanks with a doubled tarp to keep the heat in.  You need to ensure that any outside electrical connectioons are not exposed to the weather, though.

Angels like warmer water but a 300 watt heater would probably do the job in a 110 gal. tub.  I used two heaters, just in cae one of them quits.  What happens in a large body of water that isn't moving, is that the water warmed by the heater rises and creates a space above the heater that is warmer, the fish will crowd in this warmer area and be okay, even if the rest of the water is not warm enough.

                        Szidlon,

Just a note on your gold marbles.  They may each carry the pearlscale gene or they may not.  Chances are pretty high that they don't both carry it.  Those gold marbles came from my first breeding, which was a cross between a gold marble and a gold.  Since gold is recessive, all the fry were gold marbles or Koi.  The gold marble did carry it but the gold didn't.  So each baby would have had a 50% chance of getting  the pearlscale gene.  But both of the gold marbles that you have would have to have the gene for pearlscale to express, as it is recessive.  So chances are low for pearlscale but not impossible.  However, both the gold marble and the gold parent had a stripeless (blushing) gene.  So, chances are much higher on getting Koi.  And with a gold parent, each of your gold marbles carry a gold gene, so about a quarter of any fry should be golds.

Anyway, so much for a short note.   When you have some fry, I would be very interested in knowing how they come out.

                          Fishysue,

I moved the pair of GM's a few weeks ago and they spawned last week.  It looks like they'll turn out to be parent raisers as well.  The fry are just now starting to free swim and so far the parents are leaving them alone.  If they make dinner out of this spawn there is always the next one.  I'm anxious to see what I'll have but need to move the previous fry somewhere.  Where did you say you got the outdoor containers you have?  Sorry for the sorry pic

                            Szidlon,

Congrats on the spawning.  Hope they raise them.  The tanks came from Tractor Supply, 27400 Tomball Pkwy, 281-357-000.  They are about 21 miles from this area.  There are other stores but this is the closest one.  The web site is tractorsupply.com.

I have a couple of Koi that have spawned, but the eggs aren't hatching.  Think the male is infertile.  I'm going to try the female with another male.

We just got back from TCA.  Had a nice time and sold a bunch of angels.  Bought a few other fish, non-angels that is, neon rainbows, albino bristnose and cories, etc.  Marion, Charles and Walter also were there.  Checked out a few of the Dallas fishstores and wineries while we were at it.

Like the smiley guys.  About two years ago, TCA hosted the ACA convention and they had a wine tour.  Grapevine is just a few miles from where the hotels TCA usually uses.  So whenever, we go back we also go on a wine tour of our own.  We did one Monday.

FOTAS this year will be up near Austin, and there are a bunch of nice wineries around Kerville.  Leukenbach is also up there.  We've been talking about doing one then, too.  :violin:
