  • Dovii questions???

I just recently purchased my first Dovii. I bought an 8 inch Dovii from ultimate fish, that i believe is a parachromis, or possibly a gold?

The fish when purchased was extremely aggressive, and a finger chaser at the store, but when brought home is skittish. I know it will take some time to get aquainted to his new surroundings, but how long? He is in a tank all to him self. I am currently awaiting rico to sell me some of his fine fry to grow out a mate for him, but this may be a while. I know he is best kept alone or with mate, but i dont want him to lose his aggression.

Dovii keepers please school the newb....

mine was skittish from the time i got him until he bred with my female. after that he went nutz. does ultimate still have dovii's? i need a female.

Great site, learned a lot from it. I have 4 dovii in a 240g (8x2x2). The plan is to get a breeding pair. Purchased 6 of them @ 1.5" from Jeff Rapps 11/09. 2 died within a month (not enough hiding spots I'm thinking). Two of them have paired off, male is pushing 9", female maybe 5". The...

I was just wondering how long dovii typically stay shy. I have four juvie dovii alone in a 210 gallon tank. I removed the cutteri that they were sharing their tank with yesterday. Right now they are pouting a little since I stressed them out removing the other fish. Anyway, they have never...

My Dovii is right at 10" right now, i've had him since he was about 3". It took a long time for him to become aggressive. I'd say 8" to 9". I was just about ready to get rid of him because he would just sit in the corner of the tank, then overnight he just flipped his sh#*. I can't even come within 3 ft. of his tank now and he is BANGIN!!!!! the glass like a mofo. Give it time, he will mature. Glad i didn't get rid of him. This is the baddest fish i've ever owned!!!!!!! Be patient.

Oh man sorry to hear that... I read that thread a while back but figured you may have found another since. That was a pretty female lots of gold. Mine looks alot more like the male.

CeeJay, i have no intentions of letting him go. I hope mine will flip his sheet soon lol... But i am sure it will be worth the wait.
