I recently decided to go a different route with my 7ft 210g tank. Here are some quick pics of some of the new stock. I am happy with my decision, although I did love the setup I had. I decided to keep it very similar, however my current stock required me to open up much more swimming space. I havent decided yet if I will get some large and flat, smooth round rocks to place here and there on the bottom. This pic is with my lighting set on the "morning" setting. Toward evening, it turns dimmer and more purple.
There is now much more movement and activity going on at all times. The Red Hook silver dollars are like piranhas, they eat so fast and so much. Not a drop of food is left after feeding time, and Im almost challanged to get everyone else in the tank their fair share. After a week or so, everyone seems to be getting along...of course the two severums play tag now and then...and my green terror is always after the small school of green neon tetras I left in for snacks. I havent seen him catch one yet, but that doesnt stop him from trying! Usually after a dive he ends up with a mouth full of sand...lol.
The black arowana joined the crew yesterday. So far so good...here are some pics of her. She is very graceful and curious, swimming around the tank all day. I would say she is about 8" inches long or so, maybe 9". Thanks to Troung at Xtreme for this beautiful specimen. He has ONE left, larger at about 12" long if anyone else is interested. I dont think anyone else in town currently has them.
I will keep the thread updated as things progress. I am also looking for maybe a couple other large/rare SA cichlids to keep. I would rather have them in the end, perhaps trading out the green terror for something more exclusive in the future. Also Im probably going to remove my 2 small L134 leopard frog plecos, as they werent cheap and I can see them becoming a snack in the future. Yes, Tator, you have fist dibs! The hard part is finding them, they are always hidden in the branches.
Thanks for looking! I hope this tank is a long term success.
