On their second attempt at spawning I finally have wrigglers. The fry should be free swimming in three more days. Looks like about 500 or so. The female has been a good mother. I don't find that these fish are as aggressive as literature would have you believe. They share a tank with six other JD and there has been none of the wholesale slaughtering that I was afraid might happen when the pair set up the spawn. I will say that the care of the eggs was not what I am used to with other American cichlids. A number of eggs fungused and the female never bothered cleaning them off or anything like that. Anyway, I am pretty delighted with the event. Does anyone know about at what age one can see the difference in Electric Blue Jack Dempseys and their normal colored siblings?
