Re: The Pink Convicts are breading already

The above picture is from June 29th.. now nearly a month later I have about 15 fry left, that are starting to fend for themselves.. Mom and Dad still protects them but I am thinking this is going to come to an end soon.
I had a second pair of them breeding in the tank too, but because an airpump a little more than a month ago broke down, and a series of mistakes on my part one of the pink convict males died on me.  The female right now is almost "begging" for another male to show up as plump as she is.   I am thinking this weekend coming up, I am going to head over to a friend of mine and ask if I can have his two male pink convicts, and I will see if she will pair up with one of them.   Then more fry will come soon I am sure :)

I'll donate my 2 young pinks to your breeding program, but you got to take care of them, and if I find out you've had any "mistakes" I won't take kindly to it either.....

Seriously, if you wanna make the drive up to cypress, (about 35 minutes or so) you can have my two young pinks for free. One, I'm pretty sure is a strong healthy male, he appears to have a tiny hump like a Frontosa on his forehead, and he likes to bully the peacocks all day.

CichlidFan,  I would love to have them, it will bring variety in the tank and I will get some good bloodlines going.  Its going to make me want to put my other tanks together this much faster.  Right now all I have is my 58g community tank to put them into, which is where the rest of the gang lives, but as soon as I have build a stand, gotten some more hardware to put the two tanks I bought two weeks ago, I will have a breeding tank which is where I would like to house the two or three pairs of Pink convicts, and a grow out tank.  (The summer season is never good for me - higher bills).

Re: The Pink Convicts are breading already

Well my hopes of completing my 29G tank for the pink convicts before the breed again has failed....
When my second male died two months ago from an airpump failure, the second female became lonely.   Over the last 2 weeks she has been doing everything she could to impress daddy of the first batch, to leave the batch and come with her.   Sometime today she succeeded.  The male is protecting the area but lets his first girlfriend in the area without a problem.. she has started to chase the fry out of the area that was their spawn area making it ready for the new parents.  When I read cberry's post about convicts sometime having a harem, I was kinda hoping that he could hook the other female in tank up, because she had her egg tube fully extended for days.
What does this mean.. I am going tomorrow to Mike's so I can order items and build my tanks, and on Saturday I am going to do a water change on the 58G, and clean as much as I can, so they will have a clean tank to play with.  I wish that the other tank was ready but it will be sometime next week before its ready to accept the original fry so the can start growing, so I can later put the adults in it to allow them to have their own place.
CF - One of these days I will attempt to see you about getting the two you have but like I said until I have the 29g up and running with full cycling done I am not going to venture over to your place to pick them up.
I have come across another problem.  I bought a while ago some green terrors and I was told that I had gotten a male and female.  I have noticed for months that the larger of the two always chased the other.   I never understood why until tonight.  Without doubt the female is a male, it has started to color up dark and VERY beautiful too, and the fines on its back and bottom has grown in the last few days obviously to some large extensions to the point I almost thought that it had done a magic trick and replaced itself with another fish.  There are only two Green Terrors in the tank so I know there isnt a third one somewhere..
I dont even know if I want to breed them right now because I have the pink convicts who have taken up 1/4 of the tank for themselves.  When I remove them from the community tank I might add some females in there, but at the same time, I need to save up my money and get a 150-210g in that corner and put all the SA's into it (including my two oscar's who look like they might mature into a male and female (not yet sure).  -  I need another job so I can buy more tanks..... (damn the cycle is starting) hehehehe

Re: The Pink Convicts are breading already

Well here we go again.. Daddy obviously has figured out he is the lone man on the totem pole and when there are ladies around you have to tend to them.  He has now fertilized the third lady pink convict in my tank.  All of the time I am pulling my hair out because I wanted to move them to their own tank so they could have some privacy and change the 58G into something different than the community Pink Convict tank.  (haha)

Well we will see if this mom will do what the second one did.. eat her eggs before they became fry.  At least I can say this.  I am not bored yet from the massive amounts of egg laying in the tank.. and First Mom... yeah she is starting to show lots of colors now..  I am thinking it will not be long before she is going to be ready to do the deed too :)

                I cannot win.
