  • Looking for white or off-white colored pool filter sand

I am looking for white or off-white colored pool filter sand for my discus aquarium. I checked out couple of leslies pool supply stores around SW Houston but all they have is tan colored sand. Does anyone know where i can buy white silica sand? Thanks for your help.

I've never heard of pool filter sand being white. I know certain beach sand is white (obviously not Galveston). You can try crushed coral. They're pretty white-ish

I dont want to use crushed coral, because it will change the pH. Pool filter sand maybe does not come in white color, but many people from different forums were able to get the off-white sand.

There's a light shade of Leslie's Pool Filter Sand if that's what you were referring to?

Nope. There's two shades of tan that lpfs comes in. A light and dark shade

I really want to find some off-white colored silica sand for my aquarium. From time to time, Leslie does carry some off-white sand. I know that what light shade sand looks like, and i prefer silica sand that has lighter color than the light shade sand from Leslie. Anyone know what brand and where i can get some?

Google gave me this brand " Mystic White II Pool Filter Sand". Does anyone knows where i can get this sand? Tried to call the company who make this sand but could not get a hold of them.

Hahaha - the infamous Mystic White PFS. It is made by a company in Dallas - US Silica. I had all their info but lost my flash drive. A guy that is over distribution actually called me back! The closest place they distribute is in Dallas area - none in Houston. I tried my best to get some for several months last year.

CaribSea makes a white sand - called Moonlight Sand - but its spendy!

Now to find white silica sand try sandblasting places, janitorial supplies or Home Depot/Lowes. I found some here at Harbor Freight Tools.
                    Thanks so much,
