  • Angel Fish Wigglers Finally!!

After the previous 10 tries my Angels have finally managed not to eat all of their eggs this time. So now there are 10-20 little wigglers as of last night. This afternoon I noticed that they moved the fry to another location, which I have been told they will do sometimes. But along with the wigglers on their new leaf (which lays somewhat sideways) there is the beginnings of a collection of aquarium sand and other stuff (food or poop?) I don't want to get to close so I'm not sure what all is there now. The male Angel seems to be cleaning other leaves in the aquarium. To me it looks like my Angels are attempting to feed the wigglers, do I still need to feed them if the parents are doing it? I was planning on going out tomorrow to buy the food and a baster but after so many tries I didn't think things would ever get this far and since they have already moved the fry once I'm worried about feeding them myself. Advice please!!!!!

Don't feed them until they are free swimimg and yolk sacs are gone. This will be at about 6 days after hatching. You may want to remove them. Put them in a a gallon jar or 2 gallon aquarium with small air stone (very low current). Use tank water from main aquarium 10-15% water changes 3x a day and siphon out dead fry. They'll eat rotifiers 3-5 feedings a day for about 3 days, then switch them to newly hatched brine shrimp no more than 24hrs. old (wash them out to remove salt) and banana worms. In about 2 weeks you can start crushed (to powder sized) flakes, transitioning them.

Black_knight-Fry are 2.5 day's into "sqigglehood". I have heard of rotifiers but don't know much about them or how to buy/hatch them. I know the fry are at risk of being eaten until they get to large to eat, any idea about what that age is? Was totally unprepared for the fry (since the eggs have always gotten eaten) so I went out to Petsmart last night and bought some frozen baby brine shrimp. Package said it was for fry but no mention of age of shrimp before being frozen. Looked like lots of tiny eggs in the water, patents got a little excited but I think they were too small for them to eat. Will save the rest for nowuntil I need them. Parents moved fry again, not sure why, no telling what's going on in their little fishy brains!

Congrats. on the wiggiles. I have Angels that move their wiggiles. For the day of spawning to the free swimmers is 7 day. 48 hours to hatch and 5 days of wiggiles. On the 6th day they start free swimming and you need to feed them. I always use fresh hatched brine shrimp. no more then 24 houres for the first few days but you can feed for 48 hours Brine shrimp loss their egg sack at 48 hours and its the egg sack the has all the nutrition. I have seen the hikari frozen baby brine shrimp but have never used it. the parrents will be able to eat Fry to about 16 week but can kill them any time they like. Most angels will be good parrents but some never are.
            Good luck. Hope this helps

Thanks Troy! Don't really trust my two Angels not to eat the fry, not with them eating all of their eggs in the past; I'm hopeful though. It's either going to be a LONG 16 wks or a short one, time will tell. I'm really impressed with the way they are caring for the fry so far though and if these guys had their way I wouldn't be allowed in the same room as the aquarium, I've never gotten glared at so much in my life by fish!!

you can cover the tank with a sheet. to lower their stress. I use a black sheet to over my angels when they spawn.

Ok, I have free swimming Angel fry!!! The stinkers must have moved some of the eggs and I didn't notice because I have more than 10 or 20 fry like I thought I had; somewhere around 30-40 maybe!! :)
How often do I feed the fry and do I still feed parents 2x day???

Considering the tray of baby brine shrimp is $7.50 ea (crazy price for idiots like me to pay) I Thank you for the comment about the squares Troy!! Also got a package of Hykari fry food I'm thinking of alternating the two foods, shrimp one day & fry food next, etc. My problem is everything is so tiny I don't know if the fry are actually eating, for sure I'm getting Mom & Dad pissed off though!!
