  • 90g African to CA/SA

Finally getting around to posting pictures of my "new" 90g (Old: http://www.houstonfishbox.com/vforum...improved!-Lol))

    90g Fluval Frontier
Fluval 405 through the drilled holes (Had some fun with some loc-line).
    Eheim 2217
    Fluval E-Series heater

I wanted to switch to a Hydor in-line heater, but had bad luck getting a tight fit with the Fluval ribbed tubing when I tried a year or so ago... I really like my Eheim 2213 on my smaller tank, so I bought an Eheim and hooked up a new Hydor heater. Yay, no leaks.... except the water started to get a little hot, and when I went to adjust the dial it was completely stuck. 0/2 with Hydor heaters

Anyway, scape is just a 1-3" of PFS, a few river rocks (most are just holding down the wood for now. I'll rearrange when everything is water logged), and 3 pieces of Manzanita driftwood.

    Current stocking:
    16 Tiger Barbs
    1 Jack Dempsey
    1 EBJD
    1 Green Terror
    2 Spotted Rafael

    FTS:

Close up on the middle - I don't really like how the rocks look, I just had them there to weight things down. They create a great little cave that the JD hangs out in though. - Tiger Barbs are everywhere. Photobombing.

    Portrait

A few shots of my little 1.25" EBJD. He's really active, and more inquisitive than the larger JD/GT.

The normal JD. He's about 2.5"

No pics of the GT... he was elusive.

    :)

Thanks! The driftwood is actually made up of three pieces. It's a braced tank and everything had to fit through two 18"x18" holes. It took me forever to find some that would work. Bought em I online based on their dimensions and overall look, and I think I lucked out! Had to wiggle things around a lot but eventually got them all inside and looking how I liked.

As for the ebjd, I'm definitely rooting for him. He's so tiny. It seems like the larger JD is accepting of him, and keeps the gt from messing with him.

                      Thanks again!

On the almond leaves, I have done a little research, and it seems like while the positive effects on our city water will be minimal, I do like the leaf litter look, especially if it makes things feel a little more natural. You used to have a SA biotope, right? Was it a pain cleaning out the leaves as they would break down? I just imagine scraps floating all over.

The water is a little discolored form the wood, now. Any idea how many leaves would be appropriate? Will I see some color to the water regardless? Also, I'm not running any purogen yet, but I had planned too.

Thanks for all the comments! Suggestions welcome.

                        Re: 90g African to CA/SA

If you use the leaves there will be tanning. Best way to keep that at bay is consistent water change schedule and purigen. To clean up you could have a hose and siphon the water. Then just suck out what you want out.

Where do I get them from? Ebay has some listed, but they seem awfully expensive for some leaves
