    Re: Cichlid questions please....

Small mean fish... Exodon paradoxus... just sayin'.
    Scarecrow : I haven't got a brain... only straw.
Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

Sounds like you need peacock bass or petenia splendida. They are fun to watch eat live fish but they will need a much larger tank. Most fish that are carnivores need a larger tank than what you have.

my local Petsmart sells them for pennies each.... I can get about 20 for about $2..... Cheap fun!! Also, Aquarium World, which is close to my office, sells ghost shrimp for pennies as well... 20 of them buggers don't last long... blood worms the rest of the time.... OR brine shrimp....

I don't want them to eat each other, just minnows and shrimp... Wifey wants colors... otherwise I'd go with the Exodon... they sound pretty cool..... feeding frenzy.... LOL... Love it...

well other than the Exodon paradoxus, if you want fish that eat other fish, you need a bigger tank. maybe you should think about guppies? they are very colorful.

Uhh.. Are you even looking at the right Exodons? They do have some pretty colors imo. Much more than most SA/CA schooling fish. They'll shred through minnows like nothing and they'll even eat each other!

Tim's even doing a group buy on them! 20 minnows for $2 is a lot more than a NLS container in the long run. Plus the NLS is much healthier for your fish unless you plan to gutload those minnows, which would cost you more money.

the blues are a bit more demanding of water quality but if you don't mind the challenge they are beautiful, have tons of personality, and are a great fish to keep in spite of their higher pricetags. do your research and have fun!

Sounds good! I love to look at rams, but apistos more. Never kept either and I can't justify getting them. You should check out all the apistos before deciding on the electric blue rams. There's just so many to choose from!
