Good morning...
I performed my WQ test this morning after one week since last WC so that I can forecast my potential issues when I travel etc as I am implementing a bi-weekly WC go forward from today. Here are my results
- pH - 7.0
- Ammonia - 0 ppm
- Nitrite - 0 ppm
- Nitrate - 0ppm
OK, I tested mid week and had same results except Nitrates were 5 ppm and were at 0 prior to my WC. IMy assessment is that I introduce Nitrates during a WC even though I use prime and then by the end of the week my system levels everything to 0... Also, I stopped using Discus buffer today.
Now here is the in interesting thing, when I started my routine today, I noticed two of my BDs, not yet full grown but at 5.5 inches or so, have paired off and spawned. They are guarding a small group of eggs halfway up the side of my driftwood so my WC could only include 20 RO and 20 tap with Prime... I intended to an 80% change but that would have exposed the nest to the air.
These BDs are cute. The female keeps her nose against the eggs. and the male runs everything off. He even pushed my hand when I was cleaning broad leaf plants near the nest...
Here are the pics...
Just a few weeks ago I had Trapajos spawning and they were not full grown yet either... There eggs were eaten at night after a few days and I think it was my Red Tail Sternella Pleco which I have now traded to remove from tank... cool fish but he was growing way to fast...
