Going to do a Cichlid tank need some advice

Tuesday my last fish a placo over 20 inches died he was 12 yrs. old had a good life. Now I am going to clean out the tank get some black sand for it . My question is rocks can I use any rock at a landscaping place sells?

It depends on the type of fish. Most rocks will work, but I suggest avoiding the rocks with very sharp edges, as fish like to rub against things.

I am not up on names of the Cichlids and I am kinda on a budget will be getting the cheaper ones from a nearby pet store not petsmart

What's ur budget? Buying on here from hobbyists is normally cheaper than any pet store and of better quality.

For fish is about $150 my problem is right now I am working 80-90 hrs a week and that pet store is near one of my extra jobs

Yes they are. Still to small to tell but you should have a female in a 6 or more group.
