Vieja Maculicauda is just the scientific name. There are alot of "vieja" out there. This one is known as the black belt cichlid or the red belt 'vieja'. You know some people only know fish by the scientific latin name and some only know the common name. Example: The Red Snook, which is the Petenia Splendida. I know it as the Petenia Splendida. In Belize we caught a different variety. They were silver with big black dots running horizontally. They call them 'Bay Snook' and they too take good. But yeah, I call the maculicauda 'Tuba' since the Belizians call em that. I even doubt they know the Latin name. Thats what they fish for to eat. I catch redfish, trout, and flounder and I don't know the scientific name.
