Next was to get the light placed in the hood. I am going with a LED light. I made a bracket to place the light above the water to allow it to spread out.

then place the hood on the tank.

    and Finally success

Ok the plumbing is done for now (haven't figured a way to hide the Eheim 2217 pickup). Here are some updated pics with pluming, filters, and my new mylar film background. The spray bar hooked up to the eheim makes for great surface waves and light shimmer. also have wet/dry on vertical spray bar.

The spraybar looks good, however might I suggest using eheim's wide-jet pipe. You could have it in a corner pointed toward the middle of your front glass.

Here's a link. Go down about half-way down:

I would get a longer eheim intake and run it along the side. You could cover it with a fake plant if you wanted to. The best way to hide an intake would be to have your set-up drilled and place it on the bottom.

Like the way you did your LEDs!

Ron, I was using the Eheim wide jet pipe, but changed it out to the spray bar. I like the spray bar better for dispersing the flow, and is more quiet.

I have 2 of them on my 180g since I'm running 2 2217's. I run mine under the water about 3/4" below the surface and they are super quiet. The spray bar does move the water around the lower parts of your tank though. The only thing I didn't like about my spraybars was that they clog up pretty easy and are a pain to clean.

I have 2 spray bars on the tank. One across the side front to back at top and one from top to bottom in the back corner. I uses 3/4" pvc with 1/8" drilled holes about 1 inch apart. I could not get the wide jet pipe to stay down in the tank.

Cut the glass today for the top of the tank. it is a nice top, too bad no one will see it. also took a pick of the moon light effect.

Wow, glad you reminded me. I need to take some new pics as I have changed a few things. Hope to also get the discus in by Jan.

New full tank shot with new blue background. It is actually a little lighter than it appears here. It is 2 layers of blue cellophane over 2 layers of Mylar. It has a cool deep blue ocean look that changes as you move. Oh, I also checked my ammonia and nitrites today.... both at 0 with over 50 small fish added and a few dead found in my filter overflow box. Looks like it is time for the Discus.

decided to add a pick with the flash. not a great pic but to give you an idea of the background. it is naturally a mix between the dark and the bright when looking in under tank lights.

                                Very very nice.

What kind of discus are going to call this sweet abode home?

I am kind of interested in the wide jet pipe. I wonder if it will help my fronts take up more of the top water column as opposed to spray bars on either side of the tank.
