  • eggs tonight

Had two pair lay eggs tonight in my community tank. One pair was finishing while the other was cleaning a big leaf.
Pretty cool for a complete accident.

At lights out the first set of eggs was gone...

Well, I have 3 Virgin Reds, two were paired up and laid eggs in previous owners tank. I have had them about 4 months. There eggs were eaten in about an hour after being deposited. But I am happy they tried. The male seemed only partially interested in fertilizing eggs.
Second pair is a blue male and a female with very subdued bars but wild colors. They both cleaned a,nice anubias leaf while tge others were busy. But the male was courting the other Virgin Red female at the same time. He ended up mating with her. Weird.

Congrats on the eggs tetranerd. I've had several clutches myself, and I previously thought it impossible for the eggs to develop in our hard water. But low and behold, a couple weeks ago I had wigglers and even some free swimmers. Unfortunately didn't last long with the other discus around, but it just goes to show that you could conceivably hatch and raise discus here in Houston!

I just age it for at least 12 hours, add Safe to the tank and then fill it up with the aged water. My ph is 8.2 after aging, around 7.9 straight out of the tap.
