  • Discus tank upgrade

    Hello all,

Upgraded my discus tank from a 55 to a 75. Got it all fired up yesterday. Still no substrate just plants floating around and some of my driftwood. Need to add more. I currently have 10 discus, 2 german rams, 2 orange fire apistos, an L330, couple of clown plecos, and a school of cardinals. I am going to add another school of dither fish; CPDs. Then will add more discus over time. Will shoot some pics after work. My discus tank really took over as far as being my favorite to watch and I hate the dimensions of the 55. The fahaka tank, and other mean fish tank is fun but man the discus tank is enchanting. Cannot wait to get it finished.

I can't wait either! What a beautiful list of fish. As far as the CPDs, try them and see how they do. My experience and that of several other folks has been that they are extremely shy, even in a heavily planted dimly lit tank, with either active or peaceful tank mates. You may rarely see them! That said, I love my CPDs... Just wish they'd be out and about more. It's fun to watch them chase each other around. :)
    All bleeding stops eventually...

Thanks. I already have some CPDs just need to get more from Tim. They were in another tank and got chowed on by a knife fish. so only 2 left from that group. I think with enough of them they will school some.

no reason really, just have not bought more. Extreme had some the other day for 4 bucks but when I went back they were sold out. I may pick up some of those monster Bolivian rams from HAW. Want to add some more colorful apistos also.

haha so fast! I took pics earlier with just the lighting diffuser on the bottom the fish look super light. I use Caribsea Floramax, it is just the eco-complete black without any water weight in the bag. I put all the leftover from my old tank in and it makes a thin layer but I need more for the plants to actually stick in it. Looks so much better I will snap more photos after the dust settles down later.

Nice, I need to pop in and see if they are still on sale. I think I got my current rams from one of those petsmart sales.

I would remove the royal pleco because he will destroy you amazon swords. I introduced a 4 inch royal pleco to my fully planted tank a while ago and he destroyed my amazon swords i raised from baby swords to mother plants. He did not eat the leaves per say, he started eating the base and crown of the sword plant.

yeah he f*cks stuff up sometimes. He mostly goes hard on my manzanita. My mother swords are putting off a crazy amount of babies I have gotten probably another 10 amazon swords from the 3 or so "clone mothers" (haha) I have. I only use flourish and nutes on them no CO2. He adds a cool variety to the tank and my clown plecos are too small to really notice. I also have a "rainbow" of discus but I like it. Gonna add another melon or maybe a cobalt tom.

Are those wild caught discus in your avatar?
