  • Moving a 20g tall

So I have never had to move a fish tank before and I am wanting to move my 20g tall tank to a new stand. Do I have to drain this thing completely or can the bottom withstand a few inches of water and all the gravel??

It would just be moving a few feet, but I would not want to pick the tank up and have the bottom fall out.

So what should I do, drain the thing or try to move it with some water and gravel?

    Thanks for the info...

here's what I recomend. the general rule of thumb for water is 8 pounds per gallon. I say, drain you water 3/4 of the way dawn (try to save your old water in 5 gallon buckets if possible) that leaves your tank weighing about 50-60lbs. Try to get a friend to help you and you should have no problem. or you could set it on the new stand and slide across the floor. or if you happen to have some sort of rolling cart available.....

A few inches of water and gravel shouldn't cause the bottom to fall out. Like Steve suggested, get a friend to help move it so you don't hurt yourself or the tank.

I've moved a 30 gallon before, but I wouldn't recommend it cause it was really heavy and I had to go up 3 stories of stairs. You should be fine.
