question about sand

  • question about sand

    ive had my sand for about 2 months now and every time i move it around all the brown stuff ( it almost looks like dirt) it goes everywere and every time i stick my siphon all the way in the sand it sucks alot of the sand up what do i do? how can i clean the sand?
    210 gallon ~ S/A, C/A build; jaguar, dovii, flowerhorn, gold doviI, 2 red devils, pacu, shovel nose cat
    125 gallon long ~ African cichlids
    10 gallon ~ ghost shrimp breeding (fish treats) haha

    i dont like using sand because of this reason but what i used to do when siphoning is have a big rubbermaid tub out side to drain into. the sand that gets sucked up will end up at the bottom of the tub. you can then rinse it out and dump it back in.

        What kind of sand are you using? I use Swimming pool filter sand, and lose very little. If you are using play sand that could be your problem. Also a magnum HOT would help. Good luck.

          It takes some practice but after a few tries, you will be able to hover the syphon right over the sand and suck up all the nasty stuff while leave the sand in place. It takes some practice, but you'll get it.

            no i can do tht i jus wanna get all the dirt and stuff out all the sand
