I would just try mixing it, and or "turning" it over.

Sugar sand or Leslie's PFS ? PFS you dont have to clean at all.. its cleaned before put in bags because Leslie's pool supply dont want calls because their filters sent out clouds of dust.

It's a good idea to rinse just about anything you put into your tanks. Rinsing will remove any shipping settlement and or dust particles....

i always put it in a five gal. bucket and put your hose in it and overflow it, and every 5 min you stur it up. i started to get sand at the pool place its filter sand looks good in tanks and no rinsing. 9.99 for a 50 lbs bag.

I LOVE Leslie's Pool Filter Sand!!! I am setting up my 55 gallon with it and it's WONDERFUL!!! Clean and super easy to work with!! I think it's the best substrate I've used so far! (we'll see how the plant do though, I added a layer of Laterite on the bottom and then a bag of Flourite black sand to add a layer of "soil" under the sand and to help the plants)

Really NO mess at all and the tank filled up crystal clear!
