it should, but you might want to call staples and find out if it's partical board with oak finish, or real wood. because although partical board does stay sturdy and can hold it, it warps if it gets wet, then can become subject to rot.140 New World Cichlids

I would not trust it. I doubt the joints are strong enough to hold the weight long term.Vicki

if you do that, humor me and get something plastic or foam between the tank and actual shelf. that way water can't pool on the shelf and foam (lowes for 9 bucks 8'x4'x.5") will disperse the weight more evenly. DEFFINATELY reinforce with solid wood. how heavy was the shelf?140 New World Cichlids
