I started to set up a tank last night and I added the gravel, three rocks, a coconut head (see avatar) and water. I put in a HOB filter with new media and started it up. I noticed some bubles but figured it was air pockets from the gravel. I came back in this morning and it looks like I had some soap in the water. There is a bubble ring around where the water from the filter is splashing and some bubbles floating elsewhere. Its a 10g btw.
I can think of two possible reasons:
I had bought a four pack of mircofiber washcloths and split it between my wife for the kitchen and me for aquariums. After the first use, they all got jumbled and ended up in the kitchen drawer. I used this to scrub out the bare tank but didn't notice bubbles while doing that.
Also one of the rocks was like a sandstone from the yard (yeah I know, bad idea right?) but could it have been soapstone? I have no idea what it actually is...
What should I do? I removed the filter and drained half the water already. I didn't have time for anything more than that.
