  • Terrarium for an Aquarium?

I have the opportunity to buy a 50ish gallon terrarium for 40 bucks that was used for snakes. Is there any reason this is a bad idea? Is it a good deal? I have glass and aquarium silicone already so I can add a center brace if I need it.

No need to go through all the trouble when used 55g aquariums are about the same price. Just keep looking on craigslist, marshreef and here.

The only problem is wall space is already scarce and (hopefully) I will have to convert the fish room into a nursery within a year. I like the idea of a 50 gallon because its still only 3 foot long but its still a big tank. It should be just about big enough for whatever I want to do but easier to fit than a 4 foot tank... or am I just kidding myself and I'll regret it later?

i honestly think that you need at least a 125g to do whatever you want to do...unless you like guppies or planted tanks

yeahhhhhhh.... I think the biggest I can get away with is 4 foot unless I move out

But my goal would be for it to be a planted community tank... or maybe a south american cichlid tank... haven't decided yet...

Hey , go ahead and get you a 150g 4footer, haha. Well I like the 50g you are talking about because it's 18" wide

I think I am going to just wait. I was talking to a coworker and they said they may be giving up on their 55 gallon so that may be another option. Either way, I need to make measurements and see if I can fit a 4 footer after moving stuff around. Thanks guys.

So... we found out a few weeks ago that the fish room is definitely becoming a nursery. The baby is due around July! Aaaaaaaaand I just snagged a largish tank off of craigslist for 25 bucks. Its a bowfront with filter top but I'm not sure about the gallons. The dimensions are 39" x 19" x 22". I stopped by HAW on my way home (before I measured it) to find out what I can use in the filter section and Dustin said it looked like an Odyssea tank but I can't find much online except about their lights. As far as I can tell, its an Odyssea B60 but some websites say its a 65 gallon and others say 60. Anybody know for sure?

Says 70.57g, but since you said it's a bowfront, are you measuring from the widest part of the bow? If so, you will probably need to take a few gallons off.

A few gallons like 5 gallons or a few gallons like 10 gallons? )

I know the best thing would be to stock it like its a 60 but do water changes like its a 65... but knowing me I'll end up doing the opposite...

19" is the widest section of the bow. 17" is the shortest. If it were a rectangle of 39 x 17 x 22 then it would be 63.14 gallons so its gotta be a 65! I didn't even think of measuring it that way until I reread your post

Congratulations on the baby. Tank will look great in a nursery, so soothing. Start them young.
