  • Tank issue

When does a scratch in the glass become a problem? My tank has a pretty deep scratch on the outside, near the bottom, about 3 inches long. I can clearly feel the groove on the outside, but not on the inside of the tank. I filled it with water and left it out on the patio for 3 days without incident. Is this just a cosmetic thing or could it spell trouble later? Thanks! Dawn.

is this a true scratch or is it more of a crack in the glass?....
i'm puzzled due to you saying you can feel the "groove" on the outside but not on the inside?....

I guess I cannot tell if its a crack in the glass since it does not go all the way through. I can feel it when I run my fingers across it on the outside, but the glass is completely smooth on the inside.

then more than likely you just have a deep scratch in the glass...
if it doesn't resemble a "crack" as in the windshield of a car that sort of spiders along the glass, then you should be okay....and good to go.....

As long as the scracth is just a deep surface scracth and not something that has penetrated into the glass you'll be fine I believe.

The bottom of the tank does see the greatest pressure, but as long as its just a scractch you can feel as you run your fingernail over it, I think your fine.
