  • Want to check out some cool tanks?

I proudly work for MD Anderson as a Principal Project Manager in Patient Care Design and Construction. Some of my Project Managers have been involved with clinic renewal projects. These projects often include adding aquariums from ADG.

I hope all of you never have to visit MD Anderson, but some of the aquariums they have are absolutely awesome. We get more positive comments from our patients and visitors on our tanks than anything else. In fact we call a majot part of a part of our out patient clinic "The Aquarium". Everyone knows where the "Aquarium" is and often used a meeting place for family and friends to meet.

But, like I said, there are many aquariums throughout the Clinic's. The main clinic entry encompasses many varied aquaruims and are just look great. I suggest any one in the Med. Center visit the numerous aquariums we have. We are proud of them. They are very calming for our patients and visitors. It's something to be seen!!

Lastly, these tanks are very well maintained and stocked with a great variety of species. Thank you for all invloved with these tanks! You have made a difference in someone's life and that is not easy to do- these tanks make a difference! Thanks Mike and ADG!

You should consider putting one in the BSRB main entry 1st floor below Onstead. Needs some warmth in that area.

Yeah, BSRB is really considered a Research building and not a Patient Care area.

When I would go with my Dad for his treatments, I was always so impressed with the aquairums, the artwork, and the gardens. Simply an amazing place. I feel fortunate to be so close to such a world class facility.

Thank you. We try to make a scary place and turn it into a place of hope, reflection and positive imagery.

Are there any pictures available??? Living waaaay up North means not being able see neat things dowwwwn there.

Newport News, Virginia had some hospitals with pretty good aquariums usually in the main lobby where the kids were. Pretty awesome for a kid or others to go in there and look at the fish while taking their minds off of what is wrong with them....

                Awesome!!

Still would like to see some pictures...

Actually, I am working on getting some pictures of our tanks. I made contact with the aquarium vendor today to discuss future projects in our Children's Cancer Hospital.

I will contact him again to see if he is willing to get us some professional shots while I work on the beauracracy of getting the pictures through upper management. We need to be sure we do not capture any patients or visitor's picture/profile for confidential reasons. I would imagine I would need to get an agreement together with aquarium vendor because management does not tolerate hospital vendor's mentioning the name of our hospital for their advertising.

So, we shall see? I'm pretty sure I can pull off the hospital piece, I am not too sure if our aquarum vendor would want to spend the $ on pics if they can't mention our hospital's name in their website or brochures?

But, I have seen other vendors say things like "major cancer center in Houston", etc. -you get the point. I will work on it

My main focus right now is to get some additional aquariums that we have not done yet-and make it beneficial to our patients and visitors. Actually, design an area around an aquarium opposed to designing an area then find a place for an aquarium.

May I make a suggestion to you??? also to the Administrators of this forum.......

From what I have seen of the quality, photography, talent and the creativty of the members of this forum... Maybe this would be a neat opportunity to help fund this forum....

Perhaps the vendors and the medical facility would like to sponsor a photo contest with the winning picture(s) being offered a prize, cash or something like that..... which 50 / 50 split would be given to the winners and the other split given to HFB for financing costs of running this forum...

I think it would be a wonderful opportunity for photographers to sharpen their skills for a worthwhile cause... and its not the same type of thing as photographing your own pictures....

Of course there would have to be supervision, liasons with the vendors and facility, schedules to arrange and so forth....

I think it would be fantastic opportunity to broaden the HFB community outreach into areas not normally thought of..

Just me.... thinking outside of the box again...
